Dr. Berdanier

Dr. Berdanier is currently Professor and Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He was an Associate Professor for 8 years in the TJ Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University where he taught Environmental Science, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Solid and Hazardous Waste, Surface Water Quality and Project Management. Additionally, Dr. Berdanier has over 25 years experience as an engineering consultant in municipal engineering and water and wastewater treatment.

Dr. Berdanier received a BSCE in Water Resources from The Ohio State University in 1980, MSCE in Environmental Engineering from Purdue in 1983, and PhD in Environmental Engineering and Hydrogeology at The Ohio State University in 1995. Dr. Berdanier has conducted research in surface water quality and wastewater treatment and is currently involved in developing methods for the identification of Human Pharmaceutical Compounds in surface waters.

Berdanier was awarded a planning grant in 2008 from the National Science Foundation for his work with the Erdent Mine in Mongolia with the International Assessment Containment and Treatment Group (ACT Intl.) to investigate various topics related to vectors of heavy metal contamination, monitoring and ultimate disposal. Dr. Berdanier has also been actively working in the Artibonite Valley of Haiti for the last twelve years by providing disaster relief and improving the quality of life by implementing various water/wastewater projects.
